SUPERPOSITION connotes a moment at which uncertainty is so great that it is impossible to differentiate one state from another, and we are forced to assume that both are true. This markedly egalitarian approach to notions of existence strikes us as a powerful metaphor for the multiplicities of identi- ties and genres inhabited by the works and artists in the show. Inhabitants of this hyper-cartographic model find themselves in a non-space, devoid of the delineating references that would allow them to mesh with conventional tropes. This lack of ready categorization breeds another form of uncertainty—one experienced by the viewer encountering the unfamiliar products of such exploratory/experimental practices.
